In an increasingly fragmented system of European values, the values found in the historic Polish-Hungarian friendship are needed, Polish Education and Science Minister Przemyslaw Czarnek said in Warsaw on Wednesday, according to MTI.

The minister addressed an event where the results of the second edition of the national study competition “Poland-Hungary – A History of Friendship” were announced.

Przemyslaw Czarnek underlined that it was important for the future to find in our common history the elements that have linked and still link the two nations. “And the future is not easy, we know what kind of historical moment we are in, what kind of problems accompany it”, the minister continued.

Today, western, central, and eastern Europe represent a completely different set of values,”

he said.

The minister maintained that Poland and Hungary have belonged, belong to, and want to belong to the EU.

Speaking of Polish-Hungarian relations, he noted that difficulties also arise in the context of the war in Ukraine, also because “in some respects our relations in everyday life encounter various obstacles, albeit surmountable ones.” But in the future “we can do everything if we understand the past, if we understand that Poland and Hungary are friendly countries,” Czarnek stressed.
