A contingent of Hungarian police has traveled to Croatia to ensure the safety of Hungarian people in the most visited places by Hungarian tourists, informed the Parliamentary State Secretary at the Ministry of Interior.
In his statement, Bence Rétvári said that “the safety of the Hungarian people is important for us everywhere, hence in the summer season we will strengthen the police presence not only inside the country’s borders but also outside them in the areas most visited by tourists.” He added that Croatia is a priority destination for many Hungarian families, therefore Hungarian police officers will also assist Croatian police officers during the summer to ensure the safety of Hungarian tourists. The Hungarian police officers will carry out their duties in Croatia in accordance with the Croatian officers’ duty hours, patrolling both on foot and by car.
“They do not have the right to take action on their own, they work in patrols in pairs with Croatian police officers.
During their duty period, the Hungarian officers will mainly perform information, prevention and general patrol duties, and will provide continuous telephone contact for Hungarian citizens who turn to them,”
the State Secretary explained.
He noted that Hungarian police officers are involved in providing security for concerts and other events organized for tourists. They speak Croatian as well as English, making communication much easier for tourists. Between July 1 and August 30, the police officers will be deployed at the Istria Police Department in Pula and the Zadar County Police Department in Zadar. “The police officers work during the summer to ensure that Hungarian families can relax and enjoy their holidays in safety,” the State Secretary wrote.
