Police Denies Request for Pro-Hamas Demo in Budapest

Hungary Today 2023.10.13.

It is not allowed to protest in Hungary in support of a terrorist organization – the Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK) has banned the rally announced for Friday in the capital, police.hu reported. The BRFK later said on the police website that a rally had also been announced for Saturday in Budapest, but that it had also been banned.

According to the BRFK statement, a private person announced his intention to hold a rally in the second district of Budapest on Friday in connection with the armed struggle between Israel and the Hamas terrorist organization. The rally is in line with Hamas’ call for a day of “demonstrations of anger” by its followers around the world, it said.
The BRFK has banned the rally under the 2018 Law on the Right of Assembly because it would directly endanger public safety and public order. At the same time, the police pointed out that participation in the banned rally will be subject to sanctions.
The BRFK later said that an individual had also announced on Saturday that he intended to hold a rally in the 5th district of Budapest “linked to Hamas’ call”. The police stressed that

it is not possible to demonstrate in Hungary in support of a terrorist organization”.
