PM Orbán: With Economic Neutrality, We Can Boost The Economy By 3 to 6%

Hungary Today 2024.10.04.

In a recent interview on Kossuth Radio’s Good Morning, Hungary program, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán shared his insights on Hungary’s current issues and challenges after the government’s meeting.

Magyar Nemzet reports that the Prime Minister’s interview was marked by a clear emphasis on economic issues, reflecting the government’s strategy to focus on domestic challenges rather than external political distractions.

Economic Issues and Economic Neutrality
A significant portion of Mr. Orbán’s discussion revolved around the concept of economic neutrality, which he described as a strategic position designed to enhance Hungary’s economic performance. He asserted that while this strategy might spark controversy, it ultimately aims to protect Hungary from external pressures and facilitate growth.

If we do it right, with the policy of economic neutrality we can increase the performance of the economy between three and six percent, which means raising wages,” the PM explained.

He emphasized the necessity of standing firm on this policy to achieve economic development and improve living standards for Hungarians. In light of ongoing challenges, Viktor Orbán asserted that maintaining economic neutrality is crucial for Hungary to remain competitive.

Inflation and Wages
On the topic of inflation, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the government’s efforts to reduce inflation rates below 10%, a significant improvement from previous highs. He stated, “we have been able to protect people from high price rises,” reflecting the government’s commitment to shielding citizens from economic hardships.

Mr. Orbán emphasized the importance of continued wage growth, aiming to raise the average wage to HUF 1M (EUR 4000) within two to three years.

He acknowledged the need for cooperation between employers and employees to achieve this goal, noting that finding a balance between wage growth in the public and private sectors is essential. He highlighted the recent significant pay increases for teachers, doctors, and nurses, indicating that the wage program would soon extend to water workers.

Migration and Security Concerns
The interview also delved into Hungary’s stance on migration, with PM Orbán warning that uncontrolled migration poses a substantial threat not only to Hungary but to the entire European Union. He remarked on the unusual situation in Brussels, where Hungary is vocal about its position on migration, asserting, “

the mayor of Brussels should get ready, because buses will be used to transport migrants to the main square in a legally regular way.”

Orbán expressed concerns about the disintegration of the EU, linking it to migration issues. He stated, “if Brussels does not come to its senses and move to a policy of border protection, conflicts over migration will tear the European Union apart before the economy dies.”

In his closing remarks, the Prime Minister addressed the broader implications of current geopolitical tensions, particularly concerning the war in the Middle East and its potential impact on Hungary’s security.

By prioritizing economic neutrality, addressing inflation, and managing migration effectively, Mr. Orbán aims to position Hungary for growth and stability in an uncertain European landscape. The government’s focus on domestic issues reflects a commitment to protecting the interests and welfare of Hungarian families.
