Planet Budapest Coming with Interactive Community Programs

MTI-Hungary Today 2023.08.29.

There will be three main parts to this year’s Planet Budapest 2023 sustainability expo and experience program, starting on September 27 at Hungexpo, the communications director of the Blue Planet Climate Protection Foundation announced on a program on Kossuth Radio. The main patron of the event is former President János Áder.

Zoltán Németh said that the expo, held for the second time since 2021, and whose side event has been running in Vértes (a mountain range in northwestern Hungary) since Friday, is being organized at the request of the Hungarian government.

The five-day event aims both to connect the domestic players in the Hungarian economy who are truly committed to innovative sustainability and to raise awareness of each other and of consumers.

The series of events, running from September 27 to October 1, will include a Planet Expo sustainability exhibition, a 6,500 square meter “Your Planet” interactive community program on sustainability, and an experience program aimed at youth called “Heroes of the Future.” The latter is a fantastic, experiential adventure game that can be booked in advance and will involve young people through visuals and actors. The show, developed by Hungarian experts, lasts 75 minutes in 18 locations and uses the latest audiovisual technology.

The two days before the official opening will welcome school groups, while afterward, the programs will be open to the general public, the communications director added, noting that participants in the previous event in 2021 have already started registering, a good indication of the interest in this year’s event.

The aim of the programs is to show

how to save the Earth, and where everyday problems can lead if we do not do something today.

One of Planet Budapest’s key aims is to introduce sustainability to young people in a playful way.

The most important part of the event is the exhibition made up of 140 stands, where

food economy and food consumption is the central theme this year.

Each day’s program will start with a discussion with former President János Áder, Chairman of the Blue Planet Foundation’s Board of Trustees. Among these, the former head of state will have discussions with Minister of Agriculture István Nagy, the President of the Hungarian Chamber of Agriculture Balázs Győrffy, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Gábor Czepek, and Zsolt Hernádi, the CEO of MOL oil and gas company. According to Németh, Planet Budapest’s programs will look for solutions in the areas of sustainability, green financing, renewable energy and energy efficiency, regenerative agriculture, circular water management, as well as waste water treatment, sustainable packaging, and the platform of sustainable universities.

Fact

Hungary’s Blue Planet Foundation (Kékbolygó Alapítvány) was established in 2016 by János Áder, then-President of Hungary, in order to raise society’s environmental awareness within and beyond the borders of Hungary. The foundation primarily focuses on increasing the sensitivity of society to environmental and sustainability issues and involving local communities to solve them through developing a sense of personal environmental responsibility and commitment to take action on climate change.
