Hungary Today 2022.03.16.

A Hungarian version of Patti Smith’s song called “People Have the Power,” was used as a campaign song for the opposition at their March 15 celebration. The American musician also sent a video message to voters for the opposition.

Patti Smith recorded the video in her New York home, in which she says she is proud to lend her song to the opposition’s fight for a “democratic rebirth” and urges people to vote.

Through voting, we can make a change, positive change,”

Smith says.

The singer’s video message was uploaded to Facebook by the joint opposition’s candidate for prime minister, Péter Márki-Zay:

The song’s Hungarian version was played several times at the opposition’s March 15 rally.

Last year, Smith met Budapest mayor Gergely Karácsony who also used the same original song during his campaign in the preliminary elections before his withdrawal.
