The Patriots for Europe (PfE) Group, backed by the Fidesz-KDNP Group in the European Parliament, has called for substantial changes to the European Union’s budget to prioritize peace, halt illegal migration, and serve the interests of European people, families, and nations.
The group is critical of the current EU budget proposal by the European Commission, which they argue promotes policies that undermine national sovereignty and encourage migration.
The EU’s budget, according to the PfE, is misguided, particularly in its allocation of funds for border protection and migration. They propose increasing spending on border protection by EUR 1B to better safeguard Europe.
The group also criticizes the use of EU funds for what they describe as “institutional political blackmail” and ideologies that limit national autonomy.
In response, the PfE has tabled amendments to the 2025 budget, urging the EU to release development funds legally owed to Hungary, which have been withheld due to political disputes. They propose freezing 5 percent of the regional development policy budget, nearly EUR 1.5B, to prevent these funds from being diverted to other countries. Additionally, they suggest blocking 2 percent of ERASMUS funds—about EUR 70M—to ensure Hungary’s allocation is preserved.
The PfE Group views their proposals as essential to defending Europe’s sovereignty and protecting its people.
Their emphasis on border protection and resistance to what they see as overreach by the EU reflects their broader goal of shifting EU policy in favor of national interests over centralized control.
PfE’s perspective underscores a growing divide within the EU on how funds should be allocated, with a particular focus on sovereignty, migration, and ideological influence. Their proposals seek to reshape the budget to reflect these priorities.
