At the invitation of the Archabbey of Pannonhalma, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople will visit Hungary in September. The patriarch’s five-day visit will focus on ecumenical and inter-religious dialogue and peace.
Bartholomew will be the keynote speaker at an international ecumenical conference on peace in Pannonhalma on September 22.
During his stay in Hungary, the church leader will visit the Benedictine monasteries of Bakony, a mountainous region in Transdanubia, and will perform a Divine Liturgy in Pannonhalma.
In Budapest, he will meet with representatives of social and political life and give a lecture at the joint ecumenical and inter-religious conference on the protection of creation,
organized by the Pázmány Péter Catholic University and the National University of Public Service.
The patriarch last visited Hungary in September 2021, when he participated in the International Eucharistic Congress. Since 1991, Bartholomew I has been at the head of the Universal Patriarchate as the patriarch with honorary primacy among the leaders of the Orthodox Church.
