Parliament Condemns Hamas Terrorist Attacks

Hungary Today 2023.10.25.

In a political declaration, the Hungarian Parliament condemned the Hamas terrorist attack against Israel and expressed its sympathy towards its victims and those who have lost their relatives and loved ones. The proposal, tabled by the ruling Fidesz party leaders, was adopted by 168 votes to two, with four abstentions.

The document states that

Hungary condemns terrorists and stands by the victims, recognizing Israel’s right to self-defense.

The declaration draws attention to the direct and serious risk to European security posed by the large numbers of people, including proxies of Hamas and other terrorist organizations, who are allowed to enter the European Union without being checked. This is a direct consequence of an “irresponsible and misguided” migration policy.

The Parliament also declared that Hungary will protect its borders against illegal immigration by physically and legally sealing them, keeping out the terrorist threat that migration poses and guaranteeing the safety of Hungarian citizens, and expects the European Union to support this position by all means.

The far-left progressive party Momentum was absent from the vote, while a left-wing and a nationalist MP have both voted against the declaration condemning terrorism. One of them was independent MP Ákos Hadházy, former green party (LMP), then Everybody’s Hungary (MM) politician, who is best known for his obscenity-laden provocations and anti-government protest. The other one to vote against was Előd Novák of the nationalist Our Homeland (MH) party.

Yakov Hadas-Handelsman, Israel’s Ambassador to Hungary, was present at the adoption of the resolution.
