The number of dog-friendly beaches in Hungary has increased: while ten years ago there were only 8, this year 21 dog-friendly beaches and bathing areas await pet owners nationwide, Kutyabarathelyek.hu revealed.
In Hungary, it is estimated that there are nearly 3 million dogs, the vast majority of which are “real family members.” Even when travelling, their owners are reluctant to give up the company of their four-legged friends. The portal has been helping them for 10 years now to increase the number of service providers who welcome dogs, they point out.
The demand for dog-friendly places is expected to gain even more momentum in the near future as the popularity of dog ownership increases,
the portal noted. The development of certified dog-friendly sites would increase traffic and promote tourism in the local area.

Krisztián Máté, co-founder of Kutyabarathelyek.hu, said in the press release: “When creating dog-friendly beaches, it is necessary to keep a sufficient distance from the beaches that receive only people, to ensure proper waste collection and, if necessary, to provide a ramp.
Meanwhile, most of them offer a range of extra services to please owners and their dogs: dog toys, shared sports equipment, umbrellas, sun beds, dog activities and programs, agility tracks and even dog-friendly snack bars.
The portal noted that in areas of natural waters where there is no designated bathing area (beach) and no sign prohibiting it, and where there is no fencing as private land, there is no barrier to bathing dogs. This is the case, for instance, in the Danube bend, at the Kisoroszi Szigetcsúcs (“Island Peak”).
