The application process for the 32nd “Flowery Hungary” (“Virágos Magyarország”) competition has begun, as with Visit Hungary, a subsidiary of the Hungarian Tourism Agency, inviting municipalities to submit their applications by May 15.
The competition aims to recognize towns that have made significant progress in creating well-maintained, sustainable, and attractive green spaces.
This year, the focus of the country’s largest and most successful environmental beautification initiative is on promoting climate awareness.

The competition is open to communities of all sizes, from small villages to large cities, including districts of the capital. This year marks the sixth time that Hungarian-speaking towns from abroad can participate. Several ministries and professional organizations will offer valuable prizes to outstanding municipalities.
Various thematic awards will also be presented, such as recognition for the Town Square of the Year and Avenue of the Year, as well as the Blooming Community award, which honors exemplary local initiatives.

Municipalities can also apply in the categories of “Flowering Urban and Village Walks,” where tourists can enjoy guided tours showcasing the town’s exceptional green spaces, parks, and noteworthy tree-lined avenues.

Last year, nearly 400 applications were received, demonstrating a strong commitment to improving local environments and promoting effective, sustainable green space management. Registration and participation are free for municipalities.
