Fortepan: Gárdos Katalin

Fortepan is a free-to-use, community photo archive where you can browse and download over 100,000 archive photos. The site was launched in 2010 with 5,000 photos, mostly found in rubbish dumps. Since then, hundreds of families, amateur and professional photographers and public collections have added to Fortepan. The images on the site are selected by the editorial team.

The present galleries are a selection of photos from the 1950s to the 1970s, in a chronological order from top to bottom. The people, and often the locations featured on the photos are unknown, yet they offer a unique, enchanting look into the lives of a now disappearing generation.
