After 33 years at the helm, Sándor Csányi will vacate his position as the CEO of the largest Hungarian bank, OTP.
Only days after announcing that 2024 was the best year in the history of the largest Hungarian bank, Sándor Csányi is taking a step back from the helm. He is reported to have passed on the baton to his son, Péter Csányi, who will lead the financial institution from May.
In his opening speech during OTP’s annual general meeting this morning, Sándor Csányi recalled that OTP closed the most successful year in its history in 2024. He stressed that profits were high and costs had been reduced to a minimum.
Sándor Csányi will remain the Chairman of the Board of Directors, though his son Péter will be in charge of operational management. The new CEO was previously Deputy CEO for Digital Services at the company.
The 72 years old businessman is also President of the Hungarian Football Association since 2010, FIFA Vice President since 2018, and President of the UEFA National Teams Competition Committee since 2019. He is also the owner of Pick Szeged Handball Club. Csányi’s wealth in 2023 was estimated at around HUF 600 billion (EUR 1.47 billion).
