According to Márton Nagy, Minister of National Economy, Hungary’s participation in the 2025 World Expo in Osaka is not only significant from a diplomatic perspective, but could also be an important milestone for the nation’s economy and tourism. The politician stressed that the expo is an excellent opportunity to build the country’s image, attract capital and strengthen relations with Eastern countries in particular, reported Index.
“Tourism is booming, reaching peak after peak. We must not stop and must continue to make progress,” said Márton Nagy at a press conference on Monday presenting the Hungarian pavilion at the 2025 Osaka World Expo.
In 2024, more than 18 million guests stayed in Hungarian hotels and the number of overnight stays exceeded 44 million, said the Minister. He pointed out that the number of tourists from Eastern countries is particularly remarkable: the number of Chinese visitors more than doubled, while the number of Japanese increased by 44%.

The Minister stressed that those who can bring German, American, Chinese and Japanese tourists to their country can bring in significant profits. These tourists enrich Hungarian hotels and restaurants with the money they spend in Hungary. According to the Minister, the World Expo in Osaka will enable not only the Japanese, but also people from other countries in the region, such as the Chinese and South Koreans, to get to know Hungary better, and strengthen our ties.
In the Minister’s view, the Liszt Ferenc International Airport plays an important role in strengthening relations with the East.
In Budapest the airport is an important entry point, we have strong connections not only with the West but also with the East,
he said, highlighting the high number of flights. At the World Expo in Osaka, which starts in nearly 50 days and will last for six months, with 160 countries expected to participate and 28 million visitors, the Hungarian pavilion will provide another opportunity to promote the country internationally. The Minister stressed that Hungary is not only targeting Japanese companies as investors, but the entire eastern region. The World Expo is an excellent opportunity for potential investors to get to know the country, as well as being an excellent cultural link.

Dávid Drozsnyik, creative director and creative concept specialist for the Hungarian pavilion, explained the concept of it:
the pavilion delivers a spiritual gift to take home in the universal language of music, on an experiential basis, in the form of a melody”.
Márton Nagy also pointed out that this is not the first time that Hungary has participated in such a world exhibition. “We are proud of the success of the Hungarian pavilion at the previous World Expo in Dubai. In fact, I would say that it would be nice to surpass it, we will see. Maybe we can report new records.”
