Orbán: “We have won a victory so big that you can see it from the moon, but certainly from Brussels”

“We have won a victory so great that it can be seen from the moon, but certainly from Brussels” Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told his supporters in Budapest. “Christian Democratic national politics has won, and we should tell Brussels that this is not the past, but the future.”

Orbán said the election result proved that Hungarians love their country. His speech was interrupted several times with chants of “Ria, Ria, Hungária” as well as “Viktor! Viktor!”

This is a major success for Fidesz, on par with its landslide victory in 2010.Continue reading

“It was nice fighting with you,” Orbán said. “I thank you all for what you put into this victory, I thank you for the good wishes, the encouragement, the many hours of work, and for those who prayed for us,” the prime minister began his victory speech. He also thanked the Hungarians beyond the borders, especially for their help, because “that gave us the opportunity to help them.” Orbán also extended a special greeting to the Hungarians in Transcarpathia, saying “don’t be afraid, hang in there, the motherland is with you!”

He also thanked the voters and stressed that they would do everything to prove that they had earned their trust:

The greater the victory, the greater the need for humility. And let’s face it, we need humility today.”

He also thanked the more than 100,000 volunteers who have worked for the party in recent days: “They are not mercenaries, but volunteers who love their country and were ready to do the hard work.”

Orbán said that to date they have exhausted all possibilities of victory: in 2010 they won a two-round victory, then they were able to defeat the partial opposition coalition and now the full opposition alliance.

One has to ask the Good Lord how it can be that we had the best victory when everyone was lined up against us. This victory means that regardless of tactics and guile, the heart always wins in the end. We won because we have a common passion: Hungary.”

According to Orbán, they had big international power centers lined up against them, but he said that “every cent they gave to the Hungarian left was wasted money.” It seems that “the Hungarian left was the worst investment in ‘Uncle Gyuri’s life’.” (He was referring to US-Hungarian billionaire Georg Soros).

This victory will be remembered for the rest of our lives because so many people ganged up on us, including the left at home, the international left everywhere, the bureaucrats in Brussels, all the funds and organizations of the Soros empire, the foreign media, and in the end even the Ukrainian president.”

“The whole world can see that Hungarians love their country,” he added.

We’re sending the message to Europe that this is not the past, this is the future,” he said. “This will be our shared European future.”

According to Orbán, the election succeeded in defending Hungary’s independence and freedom, as well as the country’s peace, “and although we don’t know the results yet, we know the results for our children.”
