Open Air Museum Awaits Visitors with Special Goose Dishes on St. Martin’s Day

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.10.28.

With products from local wineries, goose dishes, handicrafts, and children’s activities, the Hungarian Open Air Museum (Szentendre Skanzen, near Budapest) will await visitors at the St. Martin’s New Wine Festival and Goose Feast on November 9 and 10.

St. Martin’s Day, the day of the soldier-turned-bishop, is celebrated in Western European countries with lantern parades and in Hungary with feasts and entertainment.

At the open-air museum’s St. Martin’s Day event, visitors can learn interesting facts about the origins of St. Martin’s Day traditions built around geese, but also get a glimpse of the atmosphere of joyful autumn community work. The Lajta Folk Dance Ensemble will bring the atmosphere of the St. Martin’s Day festivities to life in the museum’s ‘Kisalföld region.’

The program will also include storytelling for children, a historical and literary wine workshop, an autumn delicacies and handicrafts fair, and goose dishes at the Skanzen Restaurant.

Among the many craft activities, children will be able to make stuffed animals, autumn earrings, and chestnut figurines, as well as lanterns for the afternoon St. Martin’s Day parade.
