More and more Hungarian tourists are finding their way back to Germany after Covid, although visiting relatives and friends is still dominant, alongside holidays and business trips, news portal Index.hu reports.
Last year, Hungarians spent 602,873 guest nights in Germany, which reflects an increase of 75.3 percent compared to 2021, said Miklós Czeiszing, head of representation of the German Tourist Office (DZT) at its annual press conference.
Germany is the third most popular foreign destination for Hungarians, after Croatia and Austria.
The head of the representation said it was a major achievement that Germany was still able to beat Italy in this respect.
He said that in terms of annual overnight stays, the favorite German city for Hungarians is Munich (26,571), ahead of Berlin (24,971), Stuttgart (9,971), and Frankfurt (6,879). 31 percent of trips are business, 32 percent are holidays, while the remaining 37 percent are other, typically to visit relatives and friends. Not only is Munich the leader, but Bavaria is also unbeatable in the Länder ranking (35.1 percent), beating Baden-Württemberg (20.2), North Rhine-Westphalia (10.4), and Berlin (7.3).
