Europe and the North Atlantic Alliance are gearing up for a type of world war, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Péter Szijjártó emphasized that a significant portion of European North Atlantic leaders are gripped by war psychosis, perceiving themselves to be at odds with Russia. He underscored the Hungarian government’s belief that the conflict in Ukraine is not theirs to fight, highlighting a fundamental difference in perspective between Hungarian and North Atlantic political leaders.
Mr. Szijjártó stressed the urgent need to end the war, citing the escalating casualties, destruction, and the looming threat of a global conflict.
He expressed hope for a U.S. president following the November elections who is pro-peace, viewing a right-wing shift.
A leader of this kind in the U.S. is the best chance for peace in European politics, according to the Minister.
Reflecting on NATO’s evolving stance, he noted a shift among member states towards advocating for the Alliance’s involvement in supplying arms to Ukraine and training its military – a move Hungary opposes.
He criticized the European Union’s inclination towards competition and compliance in Brussels, acknowledging the limitations of European assistance to Ukraine compared to the U.S.
He argued against escalating the conflict through arms supplies, stressing that negotiations, not military solutions, are the path to resolution.
Asserting that Hungary’s priority is safeguarding its citizens’ security, he reiterated their commitment to staying out of the war, emphasizing the need to continue this stance in the future.
