This year marked the fourth ice splash, initiated and organized by Dimitry Ljasuk, the “ambassador” of Lake Tisza, at the beginning of each year, writes Turizmus.com.
On the first Saturday of the year, those whose bucket list included a New Year’s splash could once again plunge into the icy waters on the open beach in Tiszafüred (Northern Great Plain region, central Hungary).
Only 10 people took the plunge at the first splash, but now hundreds turned up for the event, with nearly 700 brave people diving into the lake that is only a temperature of a few degrees Celsius.
Before the swim, Chaplain Sándor Czókoly blessed the lake on the day of the Epiphany (January 6), and after a short accident prevention training and group warm-up, the ice-cold adventure began.

The participants of the icy event were watched over by the Tiszafüred rescue service, two divers, and vigilantes.
For safety reasons, people were only allowed to enter the water, which was only 5 degrees Celsius, in several rounds. After a fun dip, four mobile saunas were waiting for the participants, where 60-70 people could warm up at a time.
The first ice bath was organized in 2021, by Dimitry Ljasuk, an eco-warrior and Lake Tisza enthusiast who has made a name for himself in recent years with his nature films about the lake and Hortobágy.
