The beautiful countryside around Budapest can now be explored on horseback, with designated horse trails and enthusiastic service providers, writes Turizmus.com.
The Eurohorse network of horseback trails aims to make the whole of Hungary accessible on horseback. The new section of the network, covering 2,300 kilometers of trails, is the 509-kilometer ring road around Budapest.
Around 60 kilometers of this is located on Szentendre Island, which has been made fully accessible on horseback thanks to the latest improvements.
Horse trekkers can usually cover 35-40 kilometers a day in two parts: a 2-2.5 hour morning ride followed by a 1-1.5 hour rest, and then another 2-2.5 hour afternoon ride. It is therefore important that adequate rest areas, accompanying activities, and accommodation are available in the area. A total of 12 equestrian tourism stops have been set up on the ring road. The newly created routes, marked with GPS coordinates, connect the equestrian service providers in the area, including Halápi Ranch, the Magyar Family Farm, while the Family Riding in Pilis and the Dömörkapu Rengeteg guest house are also accessible from the island, and offer a wide range of attractions.
The trail is not only accessible by horseback, but also by horse-drawn carriage, so even those who cannot ride can enjoy the activities there.
The tour guides and the service providers welcoming guests share the aim of providing quality service for riders and horses, as well as a taste of the local cuisine. There are several perfect places for a short break or even a picnic, where the unique delicacies from the local farms can be tasted.
The 12 stop-off points include a variety of farms and riding stables. There are also organized horse riding tours, cross-country riding courses, and children’s camps, many of which offer tastings of their own products, showcase their farms and animals, or even give guests a riding demonstration. In addition, for those with their own horses, all operators have indoor stables where the animals can rest and relax along the way.
