A ski slope opened in the northwestern Romanian county of Satu Mare, near the Hungarian border at Luna (Lunaforrás). The slope is mainly for intermediate and advanced skiers who prefer intermediate slopes.
The track is 2,100 meters long, about 50 meters wide, and covers an area of 9.5 hectares. It is equipped with a modern ski lift, night lighting, and a snowmaking system to ensure optimal skiing conditions throughout the season. The lift can transport 800 people per hour, maszol.ro reported.
The ski complex, located on the western slopes of the Gutin Mountains at the foot of a 1,200-meter peak, is 8.5 km from the town of Negrești-Oaș (Avasfelsőfalu) and
is open to skiers from January 21, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day.
According to the newspaper, the development of the resort area started sometime in the early 2000s.
Over the years, hotels and restaurants have been opened in the region, but these have mainly operated in the summer, as the ski slopes have been waiting until now.
The ski lift was the first to be built, but the project then faced a number of obstacles. The main problem was that the slope was too dangerous, so part of the forest adjacent to the slope was added by land exchanging, thus alleviating the difficulty of the slope. It took a long time to build a collection pond for the snow cannons, then the ski lift also underwent a renovation, and the project organizers also had to deal with administrative problems.
