“The two countries have great investment opportunities ahead of them, and it is therefore in Hungary’s vital interest that Moldova becomes a member of the European Union,” said Agriculture Minister István Nagy in Chișinău on Thursday, where he held talks with Dumitru Alaiba, Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry.
During the meeting, István Nagy pointed out that the expansion of Hungarian-Moldovan agricultural relations, the export of Ukrainian agricultural products, irrigation experience, precision agricultural technology, agricultural drones, and drought-tolerant crops are all areas where cooperation between the two countries can be further expanded. He also noted that the producer, the food, and the market must be protected, and to this end, facilitating market access is the primary interest.
We will work on this producer-protection process from July during the EU Presidency,”
he said.
Minister Nagy added that during this period, Hungary will give Moldova the opportunity to present its problems and ideas to the EU agriculture ministers.
As part of the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was also signed. Nagy noted that this is a big step forward in the cooperation between the two countries.
Hungarian agricultural interests are already present in Moldova, for whom this means security and opens the door to further investments. Hungarian companies are keen to expand and develop,”
he added.
The politician noted that Moldova is a beneficiary country of the FAO–Hungarian Government Scholarship Program funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, which is why Hungary is welcoming students from Moldova. He added that the right investments require the training and employment of the right specialists.
During his visit to Moldova, the Minister also met Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, Dumitru Alaiba.
During the meeting, the parties agreed that there are currently many opportunities for expanding economic relations, that involve the incorporation of new precision and digital technologies. In order to take advantage of further opportunities, investment incentives and investment protection measures will be implemented to stimulate the economy. Discussions will continue in Budapest in the near future.
