Announced by Minister of Defense Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, two additional Leopard 2A7HU armored fighting vehicles and military driver training vehicles have recently arrived at the Klapka György 1st Armored Brigade of the Hungarian Defense Forces.
According to honvedelem.hu, with the arrival of the Leopard 2A7 Driver Training Tank, the professional training of armored officers and non-commissioned officers can now continue at the Brigade’s headquarters in Tata (western Hungary). This comprehensive program, spanning several months, aims to train personnel with the necessary professional skills to effectively operate the new equipment.
This delivery increases the number of tanks developed according to Hungarian requirements at the 11th Tank Battalion of Vitéz Tarczay Ervin to thirteen.
However, the Minister noted that the process is ongoing, with a total of forty-four high-tech military equipment pieces scheduled for delivery to Hungary by 2028.
The armored vehicle boasts a 7.7-meter body length, extending to 10.97 meters with the gun forward. It measures 3.76 meters in width without additional armor and stands at a height of 3.03 meters. Equipped with an L55A1 type Rheinmetall tank gun with L55 gauge-length and 120-millimeter gauge, it offers accurate firing capabilities up to 5,000 meters.
Additionally, the tank features a 7.62-millimeter parallel-mounted machine gun, a 12.7-millimeter remotely operated machine gun, and 76-millimeter smoke grenade launchers with the capacity of 16 grenades that are also capable of firing fragmentation grenades.
