MTI-Hungary Today 2024.09.13.

Ten new Hungarian feature films will be screened alongside short films at the 24th Filmtettfeszt Transylvanian Hungarian Film Festival, which will be held between October 2 and 6, in 17 Transylvanian and Partium towns.

The Filmtettfeszt will be held again this year in Cluj-Napoca (Kolozsvár, Romania), with a new venue in Vlăhița (Szentegyháza, Harghita County), in addition to 17 other towns in Transylvania and the region.

In addition to recent Hungarian feature films, the festival program will include international award-winning short films, documentaries, audience meetings and other accompanying events.

This year’s opening film of the 24th Filmtettfeszt Transylvanian Hungarian Film Festival will be another classic, the recently restored Moscow Square (Moszkva tér), which premiered in 2001. It will be screened after the opening ceremony on October 2 in Cluj and will be followed by an audience meeting with director Ferenc Török.

Recent Hungarian feature films will include Black Dot (Fekete Pont), directed by Bálint Szimler, which won three awards in Locarno, and January 2 (Január 2.), directed by Zsófia Szilágyi, premiering in Venice and in Romania.

Martin Boross’s debut feature film Raw Material (Nyersanyag), Barnabás Tóth’s thriller Mastergame (Mesterjátszma) and the crime comedy Tonight We Kill (Ma este gyilkolunk) by the Fazakas-Köbli duo will also be screened.

Among the films previously screened in Romania, Gábor Reisz’s drama Explanation for Everything (Magyarázat mindenre) and Katalin Moldovai’s Without Air (Elofgy a levegő) will be shown again.

The program is rounded off with three comedies: Szabolcs Hajdu’s Kalman’s Day (Kálmán-nap), Ádám Breier’s All About the Levkoviches (Lefkovicsék gyászolnak) and Rozália Szeleczki’s Cat Call (Cicaverzum).

In the local competition program of the Filmtettfeszt, young Transylvanian filmmakers will compete, with 12 films, screened in two blocks. The program will be complemented by an additional Transylvanian short film block.

Admission to all screening venues is free of charge and the films will be shown in their original language with Romanian subtitles.

The program of the Transylvanian Hungarian Film Festival will be available on Filmtettfeszt.ro.
