Electric utility company E.ON is building a new battery energy storage facility in Soroksár (part of Budapest), which will enable the connection of new solar systems and increase security of supply.
The battery energy storage facility will be capable of storing around 6 megawatt hours (MWh) of energy generated by 350 residential solar systems. The Soroksár facility will store the large amount of energy generated by solar systems in the area, allowing customers to use it where and when it is needed.
Its installation will also improve the stability of the grid and reduce potential outages due to voltage fluctuations,
says company’s the statement.
The total cost of the investment is HUF 784.52 million (EUR 2 million), of which HUF 337.50 million (EUR 860,000) is non-reimbursable from the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) and the rest from E.ON’s own resources.
The new energy storage facility in Soroksár will be completed by November 2025.
E.ON recalled that it built the country’s first battery energy storage facility in Soroksár, and later installed such facilities in Dúzs, Zánka and Aszófő (all in western Hungary).
The company will spend a record amount of almost HUF 400 billion (EUR 1 billion) in the coming years to develop its electricity network. The aim of these investments is to increase the amount of green energy and to enable customers to connect more renewable energy sources, including solar systems, to the grid in the coming years.
