The capacity expansion investment of Nestlé Hungária Kft. will create 280 new jobs in Bük (near the Austrian border), and this development will also contribute to breaking the record for investment, exports and employment in Hungary this year, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced.
Péter Szijjártó said that the Swiss-owned company had expanded the capacity of its pet food production plant at a cost of HUF 90 billion (EUR 232 million). The minister added that Nestlé, present in 77 countries, sells 90 percent of its products on foreign markets, therefore Hungarian export performance will also continue to grow. He pointed out that the factory’s electricity is supplied from renewable sources, helping Hungary to remain among the 20 countries that can increase their gross domestic product (GDP) while reducing their emissions.
He also touched on the huge importance of the country’s food production capacity and its ability to feed itself. As he stressed, that is why Hungary needs to treat agriculture and the food industry as a strategic sector. In this context, he pointed out that the food industry employs 145,000 people and that it is an important objective to ensure that the sector uses as many domestic raw materials and equipment as possible. He stressed that
the Hungarian agriculture and food industry is highly innovative and has recently become internationally competitive, as shown by the fact that even in the hardest years of the crisis, the companies concerned decided to expand capacity instead of laying off workers, and even during the coronavirus epidemic, they did not have to face supply disruptions.
Finally, he welcomed the fact that this is the fourth Swiss corporate investment announced in recent weeks, going a long way to breaking the record for investment and exports. He also pointed out that Swiss companies are now the 11th largest investor community in Hungary, employing almost 1,000 companies and roughly 31,000 people. And the value of bilateral trade exceeded a record two billion euros last year, after a significant expansion, and this year another 10 percent increase was registered.Péter Noszek, Executive Director of the company emphasized that
Nestlé PURINA factory in Bük, one of the largest employers in the region, is creating more than 500 new jobs in the city between 2020 and 2025, thanks to its dynamic development and continuous investments.”
The director mentioned the factory’s outstanding labor attractiveness in the region, pointing out that workers come to the factory from nearly 187 municipalities. “With the factory equipped with automated production lines, using technology that is unique in the world, the development will not stop, the construction will continue,” he added.
