Zsolt Németh, the head of parliament’s foreign affairs committee, has joined a campaign launched by his Baltic state counterparts aimed at combating Russian disinformation.
The campaign, launched in connection with the war in Ukraine, calls on social media platforms to repel the fake news coming out of the Kremlin and to strengthen the European and Russian information spaces.
“Let’s take the fight to Russian disinformation,” Németh said in a statement on Thursday.
Németh joined the campaign after being urged to do so in a letter from his Latvian counterpart, Rihards Kols.
The campaign is backed by 15 European Union parliamentary foreign affairs committee heads, as well as those of Georgia, the United Kingdom and Ukraine.
The committee heads signed a letter on the campaign on Wednesday which they will send to all social media platforms present in Europe.
