NATO Land Corridors Could Channel U.S. Troops via Hungary in the Event of War

Hungary Today 2024.06.05.

NATO’s land corridors could channel U.S. troops to the front line in the event of a European war with Russia. American soldiers would land at one of five ports and be directed along pre-planned logistical routes to confront a possible attack by Moscow, officials told The Telegraph. Hungary could be affected by the creation of one of the new corridors.

NATO would create logistical corridors on land to send U.S. troops to the front line quickly. According to the newspaper, this is needed to respond as quickly as possible if the North Atlantic Alliance goes to war with Russia. Logistical routes have become a key priority since NATO leaders agreed at last year’s summit in Vilnius, Lithuania to keep 300,000 troops on standby to defend the organization.

Such a corridor is already in operation, hence if war were to break out at the moment, U.S. soldiers would be moved via the Netherlands (Rotterdam) to Germany and then to Poland. However, The Telegraph has learned from secret insider sources that there will be four other such corridors. If NATO forces entering from the Netherlands are hit by Russian bombardment, or northern European ports are destroyed, the alliance is set to shift focus to ports in Italy, Greece, and Turkey.

From Italian ports, U.S. troops could be carried via land through Slovenia and Croatia to Hungary, which shares a border with Ukraine.

Similar plans exist to transport forces from Turkish and Greek ports through Bulgaria and Romania to reach the alliance’s eastern flank. Furthermore, plans are also being drawn up to transport troops via ports in the Balkans, as well as through Norway, Sweden, and Finland. As the British paper reports, in the last five years, NATO’s JSEC (Joint Support and Enabling Command) has carried out reviews to discover various routes that could be used to deliver troops to combat a Russian invasion.

As the alliance says, the need to create more logistical routes is due to the fact that Russia’s long-range strike capability could cause serious damage to its military infrastructure.

According to the sources,

in these corridors, national armies will not be restricted by local regulations and and will be free to transport consignments without normal restrictions.
