National Women’s Handball Team in the Olympic Qualifying Round

Hungary Today 2023.12.12.

The Hungarian women’s handball team secured a remarkable victory against Croatia in the World Championship, finishing 10th in the Olympic qualifying round. Despite a challenging start, they staged a comeback in the last quarter, demonstrating resilience and determination.

The match had a crucial “all-or-nothing” dynamic, driven by Sunday’s outcomes where Brazil won and Spain lost, making it clear that winning the World Cup was the only path to secure ninth or tenth place in the Olympic qualifying tournament.

The Hungarian team’s play was far from perfect, but they fought with all their heart. With two minutes to go,

they tied the game at 22-22.

Kinga Debreczeni-Klivinyi scored the winning goal for our team. From the last attack, there was no Hungarian goal, but in three seconds, starting from their own field, the Croats had no chance to even the score.

The Hungarian national team won 23-22.
