The Hungarian national soccer team achieved a 2-2 draw against Luxembourg in a friendly match on Thursday. Dominik Szoboszlai wore the captain’s armband for the first time.
The home team took the lead in the seventh minute through a penalty kick by Gerson Rodrigues. Hungary equalized in the 25th minute through a header by Attila Szalai. Substitute András Németh, making his debut, put Hungary ahead in the 67th minute, but Alessio Curci scored to tie the game.
In addition to Németh, Marco Rossi, the coach of the Hungarian national team, introduced another newcomer, Péter Baráth.
According to Marco Rossi, the team needed more concentration for a win instead of a 2-2 draw. “We got the first goal from a mistake, but mistakes are part of soccer. There was no problem with the attitude, the team reacted well to the deficit and took control, but this time we made more mistakes than usual and could not win. Of course I am not satisfied, but we are on the right way and the team has improved a lot in the last years,” said the Italian coach.
On Sunday, the Hungarians welcome Greece at 20:15 in the Puskás Aréna in Budapest. For Balázs Dzsudzsák it will be the farewell game for the national team, and with his 109th appearance he will overtake Gábor Király and become the only player to hold the record of national team appearances.
