Hungarian MVM Group is set to acquire a majority stake in E.ON Energie Romania, the country’s leading energy supplier, further solidifying its regional presence. The agreement, announced on Monday, includes a 68% stake in E.ON Energie Romania and a 98% stake in the regional energy provider E.ON Asist Complet. Together, these companies serve nearly 3.4 million customers across Romania.
The deal, the value of which remains undisclosed, is expected to close in the first half of 2025, subject to regulatory approvals. E.ON Energie Romania has been a dominant player in the Romanian energy market, and this acquisition represents a significant step in MVM’s expansion strategy.
According to MVM,
this move will allow the group to enhance its position in the Central and Eastern European energy markets.
The acquisition aligns with the group’s strategic goals to broaden its portfolio and strengthen its influence in the region. For E.ON, the transaction supports its focus on core strategic areas aimed at advancing Europe’s energy transition.
Despite the change in ownership, both companies emphasized that operational activities will continue as usual, ensuring uninterrupted services for Romanian customers. E.ON Asist Complet, providing integrated energy solutions, will also maintain its current operations under the new ownership.
With the addition of E.ON Energie Romania and E.ON Asist Complet, MVM will gain a foothold in one of the region’s largest energy markets, supporting its growth and the broader transition toward sustainable energy solutions.
