The Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ) has a similar position with the Hungarian government on a number of issues, including illegal migration and the war in Ukraine, the party’s MEP, Harald Vilimsky told Mandiner.

Asked about the criticism of the Hungarian government, Vilimsky said, “I have known Hungarians for years from the European Parliament and from my contacts here in Budapest. I know few people as hospitable, friendly, and fair as they are. I know that the Hungarian government’s policies attract a lot of criticism from the political left. For them it is a weapon to say that Hungary is authoritarian, that Hungary is corrupt. This is absolute madness.”

Viktor Orban is currently the head of the conservative and patriotic parties in Europe, Austrian MEP Harald Vilimsky said.Continue reading

“The real corruption is in Brussels. We have seen it with the Social Democrats, with Ms. Eva Kaili, the Vice-President of the EP, where they found hundreds of thousands of euros in plastic bags. But we also saw it at the European People’s Party, which is being investigated by the authorities for corruption. If you want to fight corruption, it is best to start with these two parties,” he pointed out.

The politician stressed that the FPÖ  – that has been leading the polls in Austria – would follow the Hungarian line on several issues in government:

We want to defend against illegal migration. We want to fight to take back competences from Brussels and to make our own population a priority in our policy.”

On the war in Ukraine, he said:

We want the same thing as Viktor Orbán: peace.”

“We would force the warring parties to sit down at the table and try to find a solution to end the killing,” he explained.
