The Mária Kopp Institute for Demography and Families (KINCS) has carried out a survey on perceptions of motherhood on the occasion of Mother’s Day, celebrated in Hungary on the first Sunday of May.
The overwhelming majority of Hungarians, 83 percent, agree that motherhood is the most beautiful female vocation. Nine out of ten of those with children and seven out of ten of those without children agree with this statement.
80 percent of people think that motherhood and a career are compatible, although it is a difficult task.
74 percent think it is important for a woman to have a child to have a fulfilling life, and 67 percent also agree that motherhood is the most fulfilling thing for women.
61 percent of respondents say that for mothers, home and family are more important than work and career. Only 26 percent of those surveyed believe that women who do not have more children because of a good profession or job are right.
Motherhood is the number one role for women, with 60 percent of respondents saying that motherhood is the most important role in a woman’s life. This is followed by roles related to other family relationships, the role of spouse/partner, then the role of caring for a child, and only then by professional success in the workplace.
