All the important moments of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, starting next Saturday, will be shown live and free of charge on television channel and sport website M4 Sport, said Dávid Székely, the channel director, reports Hirado.hu. Meanwhile, yesterday the number of tickets sold for the event exceeded 300,000.
“It is our commitment and our task to give viewers the opportunity and help to watch all the important moments live on M4 Sport and to hear first-hand the opinions of the national and foreign stars, as we have an opportunity that we have never had before,” said Dávid Székely on a program on public television channel M1.
He added that
broadcasting a World Athletics Championships is terribly difficult because there are three or four events taking place in the arena at the same time, hence in many cases it is hard to find and choose the right camera.
The World Athletics federation brings its own TV team and they are mostly responsible for the visuals, but M4 Sport will also have its own cameras following the Hungarian athletes. The channel director highlighted that the development of the coverage required a lot of preparation, and that there was an international TV training course on the World Championships a year ago.
“The atmosphere will be quite crazy and sensational, and I am convinced that it will be similar to the 2017 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest. It will be much bigger than anyone expects,” Székely emphasized. According to him, the best place will be the National Athletics Center, and he encourages everyone who can, to go.
The World Championships will be held at the National Athletics Center from August 19-27, with the road running and walking races taking place in Heroes’ Square.
Meanwhile, ten days before the start, the number of tickets sold for the World Athletics Championships in Budapest has passed 300,000, meaning that it will be the biggest ever sporting event in Hungary in terms of spectator numbers, reports Nemzeti Sport.
Furthermore, never before in the history of the sport’s world championships have so many athletes – more than 2,000 – competed in a single world championship as will be competing in the Hungarian capital, and the 63 Hungarian athletes taking part are a record as well.
