The Hungarian multinational oil and gas company, MOL, is aiming to develop plastic products containing recycled waste, which can be used to make, for example, instrument panels or ventilation equipment, reports Index.
The company has started to develop formulations for products made from recycled plastics, which can be used primarily in the automotive industry. The HUF 177.7 million (EUR 450,835) project has been awarded HUF 91.1 million (EUR 231,126) in non-reimbursable EU funding under the GINOP Plus program, MOL informed MTI.
In the automotive industry, the volatile substance content of plastics and the odor properties of products are very sensitive parameters that are strictly regulated.
In the course of the development in Tiszaújváros (northern Hungary), MOL is investigating, among other things, the production technologies of natural plastics, the modification of technological parameters, the fine-tuning of the composition of the components and additives used, and the impact of technologies suitable for reducing volatile substances after production.
The objective is to develop new low-emission and low-odor blended and recycled waste plastic products.
The raw materials could be used to make dashboards or ventilation equipment for cars, among other things, they said.
The R&D (research & development) project fits in well with MOL’s strategic plans, as one of its goals is to reduce volatile emissions and “improve the odor” of recycled plastic products, thereby promoting the circular economy. If the development of the products is successful, MOL could also gain a significant market advantage at a European level, competing successfully with products from leading companies in the sector, the statement concluded.
