Mariann Őry 2022.11.10.

According to press reports, the Minister of Technology and Industry has resigned. The government has not officially confirmed this information yet.

Several media outlets reported on Wednesday that Minister of Technology and Industry László Palkovics has resigned. According to Index, the reason for the minister’s departure is that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán supported the proposal of Economic Development Minister Márton Nagy to set up a separate energy ministry, significantly changing the structure and competence of the Ministry of Technology and Industry (TIM).

According to 24.hu’s sources, László Palkovics met with Viktor Orbán on Wednesday morning, and his departure was finalized in a private meeting. Palkovics did not attend this week’s cabinet meeting.

Referring to its sources, Index wrote that the new energy ministry will be headed by Csaba Lantos, an economist and former deputy CEO of OTP Bank.

According to its statement responding to press reports, the Prime Minister’s Office will “inform the public if any changes to the cabinet take place”.

So far there are developments and Viktor Orbán has traveled to Uzbekistan on Wednesday to attend a summit of the Turkic Council.
