Hungary’s gas supply is guaranteed: there is more gas in storage than the population’s consumption, and thanks to the robust structure of the electricity system, the security of supply is good; therefore, the country’s energy supply is secured, the Energy Minister said at a press conference held during the General Assembly of the Association of Cities with County Rights.
Csaba Lantos pointed out that 5,000 megawatts of solar power are currently being produced in Hungary.
Together with the production of solar panels and the Paks nuclear power plant, there are quarter-hour periods when the produced electricity is completely carbon neutral.
Renewables will be encouraged to replace conventional power generators as much as possible and to make the country more carbon neutral, as security of supply is the most important thing, he highlighted.

The politician called affordability another criteria of energy supply, and stressed that the government’s policy of protecting households has worked so far, with three quarters of the population consuming in the subsidized price range, the cheapest electricity and gas in Europe.
The Minister of Energy noted that efforts are being made to ensure that economic operators and local authorities have access to energy at the most competitive prices.
Károly Szita, Mayor of Kaposvár (southwestern Hungary) and president of the Association of Cities with County Rights, said that in addition to investments to save energy, municipalities are focusing on producing as much energy as possible from renewables and their own resources.
