Minister of Defense Emphasizes Export of Hungarian Arms Industry

In a move aimed at bolstering Hungary’s defense capabilities, Minister of Defense, Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky emphasized the need to export Hungarian military products during a meeting organized by the Hungarian Defense Export Agency (VEX) in Budapest.

Minister Szalay-Bobrovniczky highlighted Hungary’s strategic shift towards self-reliance in defense since the early 2010s, stressing the recent surge in armed forces development. He pointed to significant investments and strategic partnerships with international defense companies as key drivers behind this momentum. He outlined the government’s ambition to not only meet domestic defense needs but also to establish a defense industry with substantial export potential, thereby contributing to economic growth and bolstering national security. The Minister’s remarks shed light on the nation’s proactive stance in defense modernization, reflecting a strategic approach towards ensuring long-term security and prosperity.

Meanwhile, State Secretary for Defense Policy, Force Development, and Defense Industry, Zsolt Kutnyánszky, emphasized the importance of reinforcing Hungary’s defense capabilities in a rapidly evolving global landscape. At the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Defense and the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), Mr. Kutnyánszky underscored the need to build a modern, resilient military force capable of effectively responding to emerging security challenges.

The agreement aims to align educational efforts with defense industry development, emphasizing collaboration with academic institutions like BME to retain skilled personnel and drive innovation in defense technology.

He emphasized BME’s role as a vital contributor to defense capabilities, leveraging its technical expertise and research initiatives to bolster national security efforts.
