Milestone in Esztergom: 500,000th Hybrid Suzuki Rolls off the Production Line

Hungary Today 2025.01.31.

Magyar Suzuki Zrt. has committed itself to sustainability in the automotive sector and switched to the production of hybrid models at the end of 2019. The 500,000th hybrid model was completed at the Esztergom plant on Thursday, an S-Cross in the color canyon brown, with GLX equipment, panoramic roof, AllGrip all-wheel drive and automatic transmission.

The market results show that the Vitara and S-Cross hybrid models produced in Hungary are in demand worldwide and interest remains high, the company announced.

Although series production of the hybrid models – Vitara and S-Cross – started at the end of 2019 at the plant in Esztergom (northern Hungary), it was preceded by almost a year of preparation and required an investment of several million euros. The biggest challenge was to create a safe working environment, as the workstations and the corresponding assembly sequence of the vehicle had to be designed in such a way that neither the employees nor the vehicle diagnostics were exposed.

Mapping and designing these aspects was the task of the Hungarian engineers at the assembly plant. Another important aspect was the safe storage, transportation and installation of the batteries – those involved received special training.

Magyar Suzuki Zrt. has been producing 100 percent hybrid models for the European Union market since 2020.

The target set by the Esztergom company at the time was achieved, as the car manufacturer’s position was strengthened with the introduction of hybrid technology in the country and the region. The Vitara and S-Cross models lead the list of domestic passenger car sales by a large margin and play a major role in Magyar Suzuki Zrt. becoming the market leader, said the company’s statement.

The completion of the 500,000th hybrid model from the Suzuki plant in Esztergom also shows the market trend that interest in energy-efficient and sustainable cars remains high,

they pointed out.

At the same time, it is important for customers to know what price-performance ratio they can expect. The low-maintenance but dynamic Suzuki hybrids from Esztergom are exported to many parts of the world.

Interesting facts about Suzuki’s hybrid models:

  • Overall, hybrid models require 15 percent more parts.
  • Since the end of 2019, Superior white, Pearl cool white and metallic Silky silver (Silver Metallic) have been the three most popular colors ordered.
  • All 91 fasteners used to assemble the battery pack are installed under strict control. Bolt drive angle, end torque and bolt position are all carefully monitored and documented.
