Migrants have once again appeared on the streets of Sombor (Zombor), Serbia, near the Hungarian border. An on-the-spot report by the public broadcaster shows that the pressure on the Hungarian border is high and locals feel threatened.

“Right now, migrants are still in hiding, but I think they will soon be flooding the streets again. They have made it impossible to move around here. Since the police have rounded them up, they have come into the city less often, but now I see that they are coming out again. I feel threatened by them. They are very unpleasant,” a local woman told public broadcaster M1.

Most of the illegal immigrants travel by taxi to the town, from where they continue their journey to the Hungarian border.

“There is also a constant bustle around the reception center. The migrants, who want to avoid police checks, spend their time in the area. They move in large groups, coordinating with smugglers by phone. Most of them come from Syria, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, and all of them want to cross into the European Union at the Hungarian border fence,” M1 reports.

If you go alone, it is a very difficult journey because there are different gangs at the fence. They also have guns, so it is very dangerous,”

said one migrant.

“When the migrants came out of the forest, two or three of them, they told me that there were about fifty of them, mainly Pakistanis and Afghans. They said that on the other side of the forest, Moroccans were camped,” said the M1 correspondent.

Locals told M1 that clashes between migrant groups are common. Police patrol the area from time to time, collecting illegal immigrants and transporting them to reception centers in Serbia. However, residents say they will return in a few days. Hundreds of migrants may still be in illegal migrant camps near the Serbian-Hungarian border, all of whom, without exception, are seeking to reach the European Union.
