Migrants fired shots in the parking lot of the Lidl chain store in Subotica (Szabadka), Vojvodina, Serbia, injuring one of them, who was taken to hospital. According to information from Pannon RTV’s on-site crew, the incident happened late Friday afternoon a few hundred meters from the city center, reports Hirado.hu.
The shooting involved around four to five migrants, one of whom was injured and treated by paramedics on the spot and taken to the hospital. According to witnesses, four to five shots were fired. The police quickly arrived on site, and although the perpetrators fled the scene, authorities managed to quickly apprehend them.
Shoppers in the crowd were baffled by the incident. They said it was unbelievable that illegal immigrants were shooting in the city center and not just in the nearby forest,
Pannon RTV reported.
György Bakondi, the prime minister’s chief adviser on homeland security, told public television channel M1 on Sunday that there are many illegal immigrants on the Serbian side of the southern border. Their movements are controlled by criminal groups of human smugglers, and armed clashes between them have become increasingly frequent.
Recently, there have already been incidents in residential areas: first a hand grenade attack on a private house and now the armed clash between migrants in the center of Subotica,
he stated. He said that all routes to Europe are characterized by similar conditions: migrants are arriving in large numbers and are expected to continue to do so for years to come.
