Prime Minister Viktor Orbán received Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, on Monday afternoon.
During the meeting, they reviewed the German company’s investments in Hungary. The factory in Kecskemét (a town located south of Budapest) has grown to become the second-largest car plant of the Mercedes-Benz Group in Europe, employing nearly 5,000 people in Hungary.
Thanks to the ongoing expansion in Kecskemét, the company will create 3,000 new jobs by 2026, and double its production capacity to 400,000 vehicles a year.
The investment will contribute significantly to the expansion of the Hungarian car manufacturing capacity. Viktor Orbán and Ola Källenius also discussed the global trade situation and strengthening the competitiveness of the European Union.

János Lázár, Minister of Construction and Transport, reflected on the event in a Facebook post. He believes that the European automotive industry is in big trouble, because Brussels is not protecting the European industry but instead making it vulnerable. “Hungary will continue to be a strategic ally of German industry.
Our patriotic policy is clear: we must strengthen not only the domestic industry and economy, but the German and European too,”
said the minister. “The European industry cannot be strong without strong allies and strong nation states should work together in Europe. Patriotic politicians are needed,” he stated.
