The MÁV Group is preparing for the Advent season with vehicles decorated with lights, the railroad company announced on Saturday.
MÁV-START will decorate one of its V43 locomotives, named “Szili,” with a 3,500 LED light chain with a length of 600 meters, which will be visible on almost all of the country’s main lines during the Christmas season, according to the announcement.
The train made its first journey on December 1 at 4:50 p.m. from Budapest Nyugati station to Szeged (southern Hungary), where it arrived at 7:16 p.m. and returned to the capital at 8:44 p.m.
Volánbusz presents a festively decorated Ikarus 55 bus, while MÁV-HÉV (Budapest suburban railroad) vehicles decorated with lights will get nostalgic vehicle lovers in the mood for Christmas. The nostalgic Ikarus 55 illuminated bus will be on display at Budapest’s Népliget bus station from December 6 to 30, 2024, and will be available for sightseeing tours of the capital on several occasions.
The children’s railroad is preparing for the festival with a train with special decorations and unique lighting. According to the MÁV Group’s website, this year, several red children’s railway carriages with the usual red central aisles, the blue nostalgia carriage, and the red “Debrecen” carriage will welcome travelers with a Christmas atmosphere.
On the Balatonfenyves (southern shore of Lake Balaton) narrow-gauge railroad, those interested can travel to Nagy-Berek (wetland, Somogy County) and Csisztafürdő (also in Somogy County) on festively illuminated trains until January 6. The Winter Fairy Tale Train will run on both lines of the railroad – on the lines between Balatonfenyves-Csisztafürdő and Balatonfenyves-Somogyszentpál.
