Márton Fucsovics Moves up 29 Places in World Tennis Rankings

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.04.23.

Márton Fucsovics improved 29 places with his victory at the Tiriac Open in Bucharest, making him 53rd in the world rankings for men’s tennis (PIF ATP Rankings), where Fábián Marozsán is the best Hungarian player at 37th place.

In the Romanian capital, Fucsovics won his second ATP title of his career with a total prize money of EUR 579,000 and his position in the rankings puts him very close to qualifying for the Paris Olympics. He has jumped 29 places in the world rankings from 82nd to 53rd. This is the biggest jump among the top 200, with two players well behind him moving up 28 places.

To qualify for the Olympics, the top 56 in the world rankings must be reached by June 10 by default, but a maximum of four players per nation can play singles at the summer event, hence additional positions could be worth a quota.

Fábián Marozsán moved up one place last week to 37th after reaching the last eight at the Barcelona Open.

In addition, Anna Bondár is back in the women’s top 100 (Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings). The current number one Hungarian women’s player played in the final of the W75 Chiasso 2024 Tennis Tournament in Switzerland, and moved up 13 places to 95th in the rankings.

Unfortunately, Dalma Gálfi moved down two places to 137th, Panna Udvardy dropped one place to 151st, while Tímea Babos, who won the doubles WTA tournament on Sunday, remained at 180.

Fact

Tímea Babos and Irina Khromacheva won the Open Capfinances Rouen Métropole, a tournament with a total prize money of USD 265,000. This also means that the Hungarian player gained the 25th trophy of her career in doubles. The Hungarian-Russian duo beat Britain’s Naikhta Bains and Maia Lumsden 6:3, 6:4 in Sunday’s final, a match that lasted 1 hour 16 minutes.

Serbia’s Novak Djokovic continues to lead the men’s rankings, while Poland’s Iga Świątek is the women’s leader.
