Only one day to go until the most anticipated event of the summer, the biggest and most popular cultural event in Hungary: the Night of Museums, which will take place this Saturday at more than 460 venues across the country, with nearly 2,800 cultural programs. The museums are already in full swing, with the Japanese Garden in Zugló (the 14th District of Budapest), for example, hosting a special Far Eastern martial arts demonstration on June 22.
Many people do not know that Zugló is a real Far Eastern jewel box, with the botanical garden of the Varga Márton Technical College for Landscape Gardening and Land Survey, home to a special Japanese garden, an island of harmony in the middle of the bustling capital. On June 22, the Night of Museums, the Kagami-ryú Martial Arts Association will pay tribute to Japanese samurai traditions and values with a martial arts demonstration, while the waters of the Japanese Garden pond will be illuminated by candles to mark the upcoming Japanese OBON festival (an annual Japanese holiday that commemorates and remembers deceased ancestors).
On one of the longest nights of the year, fantastic adventures await everyone, not only in the Japanese Garden, but also all over the country,
and as in previous years, the organizers will offer programs for visitors of all ages and interests.
In addition to the usual guided tours, the participating institutions are planning to make this magical summer evening unforgettable with concerts, film screenings, interactive events, family and children’s activities, along with a host of surprises.
It is not easy to list all the different types of events on the Night of Museums, hence those interested can search by location, date, and type of event on the official website.
