A 59-year-old man has been charged after he tried to smuggle almost 900 grams of heroin in 61 capsules into Hungary last May, the Budapest Chief Prosecutor’s Office told MTI on Wednesday.
The man was tasked to travel to Brussels and smuggle heroin from there to Hungary in exchange for money. In Brussels, he obtained and ingested 61 capsules containing almost 900 grams of heroin, and then traveled to Budapest by plane with the drug concealed in his body.
The man was inspected at the Liszt Ferenc International Airport and later medical examination revealed the presence of heroin capsules in his body.
The prosecutor’s office is proposing a prison sentence for the man, who is still in custody, for the possession of a particularly large quantity of drugs.
