Leaders of Suspected Conspiracy Group Arrested for Intended Crime Against the State

Júlia Tar 2021.09.29.

Two leaders of a group calling themselves Responsible National Government of Hungarians have been charged with committing a crime against the state, the Central Investigating Prosecutor’s Office announced.

The group is suspected to have met in a town in Fejér County on September 11th. A video was also posted about this on a video-sharing channel. The suspects were taken into custody because it appeared that they were making preparations to carry out assassinations, the prosecutor said in a statement.

The suspects drafted a self-styled “new constitution” and operated a semi-secret organization via social media, according to the charges. They also expressed anti-Semitic views and took concrete action “to forcibly change the constitutional order.”

The leader of the radical group told its members that there was a “state of war” and that members of the judiciary, especially judges and their families involved in foreign currency loan cases, were “under sentence of death.”

Another leader pronounced death sentences on state leaders, leading politicians from the government and opposition parties, as well as public figures. Members of the group attending meetings in person and on the internet were urged “to assassinate public figures.”

Among the names were, for example, PM Viktor Orbán, former PM Ferenc Gyurcsány, President János Áder, candidates for prime minister Klára Dobrev, András Fekete-Győr, Péter Jakab, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó and Chief Medical Officer of Hungary Cecília Müller.

The investigating judge of the Central District Court of Buda will decide on the case.
