Large Chinese Smartphone Manufacturer to Enter the Hungarian Market

Hungary Today 2024.05.23.

A new smartphone manufacturer will soon be making its debut on the Hungarian market. The TECNO Mobile Spark 20 series from Transsion Holdings will be available in Hungary from June, reports Világgazdaság.

Although not yet well known in Europe and Hungary, the Transsion Holdings (including TECNO, Itel and Infinix) is the world’s fourth largest mobile phone manufacturer with a global market share of 9.1 percent. The Shenzhen-based Chinese tech company’s presence has so far been strong mainly in Asia and Africa.

Vincent Lee, Director of TECNO Mobile in Central and Eastern Europe, emphasized that Transsion is the market leader in Africa, with the largest market share in both Pakistan and Bangladesh, and the sixth largest in India, the world’s most populous country. The company is present in seventy countries worldwide, with Europe as its next target market.

It launched its mobile phones in Poland at the end of last year and will start selling in the Czech Republic and Romania this year, in addition to Hungary.

In Hungary, the company will work with the main distributors, and the products will be available in large Hungarian online stores, as well as in specialized shops such as Media Markt. As a significant proportion of mobile phone sales in Hungary are made through the three largest mobile operators (Telekom, Yettel, Vodafone), the aim is to include TECNO’s devices in their range, and negotiations are already underway, according to Attila Pozsgai, Managing Director of Nobilis Hungary, the company responsible for sales in Hungary.

Csaba Farkas, Nobilis sales manager, noted that TECNO Mobile’s portfolio includes four product lines:

  • the youthful Pova, aimed at gamers
  • Camon, particularly strong in photography and camera use
  • the premium Phantom
  • the Spark, covering the widest range of the market from entry to mid-range.

The Spark 20 series will be launched in Hungary in June and will include five smartphones: the Spark 20 Pro+, Spark 20 Pro, Spark 20, Spark 20c, and Spark Go. The most expensive will be the Pro+, which will be available for HUF 99,990 (EUR 258), and the cheapest will be the Spark Go for HUF 39,990 (EUR 103). Among other things, the Pro+ will have an AMOLED (active-matrix organic light-emitting diode) display and a 108 megapixel rear (back-facing) camera, but it will also be equipped with a powerful front-facing camera and front LED flash to facilitate selfies. Furthermore, all phones come with a choice of multiple back colors.

However, the Spark will only be TECNO Mobile’s entry into the Hungarian market, and Pozsgai revealed that the launch of the other three phone models is also planned.
