This year, Lake Balaton’s best ice cream was chosen for the 11th time, reports Turizmus.com. The winner was Promenád Kávéház from Balatongyörök (northern shore) with its ice cream called ‘Balaton Mámor’ (‘Balaton Intoxication’).
“This special taste is a true masterpiece, dreamed up by our head pastry chef Jenő Vadócz. The Balaton Mámor is a walnut ice cream with caramelized red wine fig sauce, topped with caramelized walnut sprinkles,” Promenád Kávéház wrote on its Facebook page.
The region’s confectioners were invited to enter this year’s Ice Cream of Lake Balaton competition, organized by the tourism information center Nyitott Balaton, until May 6, with the judging and results announcement taking place on May 10 in Siófok (southern shore). Like every year, special prizes were awarded in addition to the main prize.
These were the special prize ice creams this year:
As We love Balaton reports, the best ice creams were selected from more than 20 ice creams from 13 confectioners and ice cream parlors.
Fruit, alcoholic, salty, spicy, and even European hake ice creams were entered, as well as free creations from confectioners from all over the Balaton area,
from Balatonmáriafürdő (southern shore) to Balatonakarattya (eastern shore), and Veszprém (western Hungary, near the northern shore).
The jury also included Renáta Somogyi, the representative of the Hungarian team that won the bronze medal at the 2024 Gelato World Cup, who is the ice cream master of the Bringatanya, Somogyi Fagylaltműhely in Gyenesdiás (northern shore).
Other members of the jury were Tamás Fekete (Balaton Tourism Association), Balázs Erdélyi (Hungarian Confectioners Guild), Sándor Fodor (Habcsók Confectionery), Krisztián Füredi (Hysteria Cremeria), and Zoltán Gácsi (Chocolate Academy).
