The President of the Republic is holding talks in the Vatican. Pope Francis received Katalin Novák in a private audience at the Apostolic Palace. The last time they met was in April when the Pope spent three days in Hungary. The main topic of the current meeting was the possibility of peace in Ukraine – reports Hirado.hu.

The private meeting between Pope Francis and Katalin Novák was held in Spanish and lasted 45 minutes, which was considered extremely long,”
according to the correspondent.
My journey from Kyiv led to the #Vatican, where, among others, I discussed three important matters with @Pontifex.
1. Our primary topic was the #war. We agreed to work together to achieve a long-term, sustainable #peace as soon as possible. We also discussed what we can do… pic.twitter.com/z3Tfb9QiRf— Katalin Novák (@KatalinNovak_HU) August 25, 2023
She added that this was not the first time that Novák had met Pope Francis since the beginning of the year, as Pope Francis visited Hungary at the end of April. Therefore, this was their second meeting this year, not by chance, as it was a new stage in the dialogue between the Vatican and Hungary for peace in Ukraine.
On her social media page, the president summed up the discussed issues with the Holy Father in three points:
1) Our first topic was war. We agreed to work together to achieve an early and long-term sustainable peace. We also agreed on what we can do together to ensure that children who have been taken from Ukraine can return home.
2) We are allies in standing up for traditional family values and protecting children.
3) We also spoke with the Holy Father about his visit to Hungary in April, which shows that the Pope’s visit was not only a one-off event, but has a generational impact.
The visit took place right after the President’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
